How does the image compressor work?

Billu's Image Compressor uses the browser-image-compression library to reduce JPEG, PNG, and WebP file sizes entirely inside your browser using Web Workers — no file ever leaves your device. This makes it both faster and more private than cloud-based compression services.

Use the Quality slider to balance between file size and visual fidelity. A setting around 75–85% is ideal for most web images — you get a dramatically smaller file with no perceptible quality loss. Set it lower for thumbnails or social media previews where bandwidth matters more than pixel-perfect rendering.

You can drop multiple images at once and compress them in a batch. Each file shows its original size, compressed size, and the percentage saved. Individual "Save" links appear as each file finishes, and the "Download All" button fires them together when the whole batch is complete.

Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, BMP, GIF (static). For animated GIFs, use our dedicated GIF tools. For vector images like SVG, no compression is needed — they are already text-based.

Compressing images before uploading to your website, blog, or app can dramatically improve page-load speed, Core Web Vitals scores, and SEO rankings. Google's Lighthouse tool flags oversized images as a primary performance bottleneck — fix it here in seconds, for free.
