What is Billu Tools?

Billu Tools is a free, browser-based file utility platform. Every tool — image compressor, image resizer, PDF merger, PDF compressor, and more — runs entirely inside your web browser using WebAssembly and modern JavaScript APIs. No file ever touches our servers. No account is required to use any tool.

Why browser-only?

Cloud-based converters upload your files to remote servers. That means your payslips, contracts, medical PDFs, and personal photos pass through infrastructure you don't control, often stored temporarily (or permanently) on third-party systems. We think that's a bad trade for convenience. Browser-side processing is faster for small files, works offline, and is provably private — you can inspect the network tab and confirm zero uploads.

Who is Billu?

Billu is our mascot — a bold orange cat who takes file productivity very seriously. The name comes from the informal Hindi/Urdu word for a cat. Billu represents the spirit of the product: approachable, fast, a little chaotic, and genuinely useful.

What are Orbs?

Orbs are Billu's gamification currency. You earn them by using tools (up to 5 earning uses per tool per day to prevent farming) and by maintaining a daily usage streak. Orbs are currently cosmetic — they represent your activity and loyalty. Future updates will let you spend Orbs to unlock premium features, themes, and early access to new tools. Anonymous users earn Orbs stored in their browser; signing up merges those Orbs into your account permanently.

Is it really free?

Yes. All tools are free forever with no login required. Billu Tools is supported by non-intrusive display advertising (Google AdSense). We do not sell user data, run trackers beyond what AdSense requires, or gate any core functionality behind a paywall.

Open source?

The core tool logic is open and inspectable. We plan to open-source the full codebase on GitHub once the initial v1 launch stabilises. Watch this space.
